The project “The Last Goodbye” invades the exhibition space virally through a series of photographs found by the author scrolling through eBay. The images depict iPhones that, despite having completely shattered screens, are still being sold.

On the fractured surface of these devices, the iconic “hello” (offered in various languages) appears, normally visible upon the phone’s first activation. This ironic and dramatic greeting seems to address the observer in one last attempt to beckon, as if the device is either seeking a second chance or bidding farewell forever. The tension between the welcoming message and the visible destruction of the screen creates a powerful symbolic contrast, evoking the fragility and ephemerality of modern technology.

The images, framed in aluminum and installed using extendable arms commonly used to hold cell phones, reflect the invasive and pervasive nature of technological objects in our daily lives. This installation choice highlights the physical and emotional connection we establish with digital devices, making them almost extensions of our bodies and relationships.

The act of scratching the ticket is random and uncertain, much like a sudden failure or a broken screen. It also introduces a playful and almost consumeristic element, echoing modern society’s obsession with technology as an object of desire and reward. Society often views the possession of digital devices as a victory or a symbol of status, but the reward is fleeting: just like a scratch card, these objects have a short lifespan, and their value quickly diminishes.

The project seeks to explore the relationship between humans and technology, highlighting how these devices, now perceived as integral parts of our lives, transform into fragile objects destined for obsolescence. Through these images, the artist invites reflection on our relationship with technology and the impact it has in shaping the ways we relate to and communicate with others.

Il progetto “The Last Goodbye” invade viralmente lo spazio espositivo attraverso una serie di fotografie trovate dall’autore scrollando la pagina di eBay. Le immagini ritraggono iPhone che, nonostante abbiano lo schermo completamente distrutto, vengono comunque messi in vendita.

Sulla superficie frantumata di questi dispositivi campeggia l’iconica scritta “ciao” (proposta in diverse lingue), che normalmente appare alla prima accensione del telefono. Questo saluto, ironico e drammatico al tempo stesso, sembra rivolgersi all’osservatore in un ultimo tentativo di ammiccare, come se il dispositivo volesse ottenere una seconda possibilità o stesse salutando per sempre il proprio interlocutore. La tensione tra l’accogliente messaggio di benvenuto e la distruzione visibile dello schermo crea un potente contrasto simbolico, che evoca la fragilità e l’effimero della tecnologia moderna.

Le immagini, incorniciate in alluminio e installate mediante bracci allungabili comunemente usati per sostenere cellulari, riflettono l’invasività e la pervasività degli oggetti tecnologici nella nostra vita quotidiana. Questa scelta installativa sottolinea il legame fisico ed emotivo che instauriamo con i dispositivi digitali, rendendoli quasi delle estensioni del nostro corpo e delle nostre relazioni.

L’atto di grattare il biglietto è casuale e aleatorio, proprio come un guasto improvviso o uno schermo rotto. Introduce inoltre un elemento ludico e quasi consumistico, richiamando l’ossessione moderna per la tecnologia come oggetto di desiderio e “premio”. La società vede spesso il possesso di dispositivi digitali come una vittoria o un simbolo di status, ma il premio è effimero: proprio come un gratta e vinci, questi oggetti hanno una durata breve e il loro valore si esaurisce rapidamente.

Il progetto intende esplorare la relazione tra gli esseri umani e la tecnologia, evidenziando il modo in cui questi dispositivi, ormai percepiti come parte integrante della nostra esistenza, si trasformano in oggetti fragili e destinati all’obsolescenza. Attraverso queste immagini, l’artista avvia una riflessione sul nostro rapporto con la tecnologia e sull’impatto che essa ha nel cambiare le modalità con cui ci relazioniamo e comunichiamo con gli altri.
